Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Technical Sales Specialist to join our team in Gauteng. As a trusted technical advisor, you will drive revenue growth by managing the full sales lifecycle for our premium range of fueling equipment and electrical asset protection systems. This is a specification-led role requiring deep engagement with oil companies, consulting engineers, and industrial contractors. You will be responsible for everything from initial project scoping and bill of quantity (BOQ) preparation to compliance sign-off and long-term account management. If you have a strong engineering aptitude and a passion for technical sales, we offer a unique opportunity to work with industry-leading technology in a dynamic, high-growth environment. Purpose of the role
To grow and protect company revenue and margin by acting as the customer’s trusted technical adviser across the full company product range, fuelling equipment and electrical asset protection alike, from initial specification and preconstruction engagement, through bill of quantity scoping and pricing, to delivery on site, hold point testing and compliance sign‑off.
This is a specification‑led, technical sales role into oil companies, consulting engineers, project engineers, contractors, dealers, commercial fuel users and industrial and petrochemical clients. It is not an order‑taking role.
Key accountabilities
1. Account retention and service
• Ensure the current business already has, is well serviced and retained, with no accounts lost to competitors.
• Maintain regular, structured contact with all assigned accounts to an agreed call cycle.
• Act as the customer’s first point of escalation on supply, quality and delivery issues, and see them through to resolution.
2. New business development
• Source new customers and new business from existing customers.
• Identify and pursue new‑build, rebuild, refurbishment and rebranding projects early in their cycle, before specifications are closed.
• Prepare and submit responses to oil company tenders, RFQs and framework agreements, with support from MD
• Actively sell recurring‑revenue lines – full‑term maintenance contracts, meter calibration and refurbishment services – alongside equipment supply.
3. Technical solutions and project delivery
• Propose and deliver solutions to all customers and potential customers.
• Attend preconstruction meetings with engineers, project managers and contractors.
• Scope and price bills of quantity for customers.
• Obtain the relevant purchase orders.
• Manage amendments to BOQs arising from scope changes, agree the changes with the customer and obtain the amended purchase order.
• Deal day to day with installers and project managers.
• Together with the project co‑ordinator, keep all project statuses up to date and keep customers updated.
4. Compliance and technical authority
• Act as the customer’s first point of technical reference on regulatory compliance, ensuring that all equipment specified meets SANS 10089‑3 and SANS 1020, EN 13617‑2 and ATEX certification.
• Schedule and deliver hold point testing on site, together with the related reporting, to ensure compliance with all oil company engineering standards.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, datasheets and certification records for all products sold into the region.
5. Training and technical support
• Assist contractors with any requested information and training, through our technical support team, both on site and in the training facilities.
• Maintain contractor accreditation and training records for the region.
6. Internal co‑ordination
• Work together with the warehouse managers to ensure timeous deliveries, with the correct paper trail.
• Liaise with Finance to ensure invoicing takes place timeously, and support collection on own accounts where required.
• Manage warranty and defect claims on equipment supplied, from logging through to resolution.
• Hand over completed installations to the service and maintenance team and support the conversion of sites onto maintenance contracts.
7. Commercial administration and reporting
• Maintain an accurate, current pipeline in CRM system, updated consistently and accurately
• Submit weekly call reports, pipeline and revenue forecast to Managing Director
• Provide structured competitor intelligence – pricing, product and compliance claims, wins and losses.
8. Product development and market feedback
• Assist with product development and improvements.
• Represent company at industry events, trade shows and association forums as required.
9. Health, safety and environment
• Comply at all times with SAMD and DTE and customer SHEQ requirements and with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Complete all required site inductions and wear the prescribed PPE when working on live forecourts, construction sites and in hazardous areas.
• Report all incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions without delay.
